Annular combustor: A common type of compressor.

Axial flow compressor: A type of compressor.

Burner: Also known as the combustion chamber.

Can combustor: A common type of a combustor.

Centrifugal compressor: A type of compressor.

Combustion chamber: One of the fundamental components of a gas turbine engine. This area is also known as the burner. There are three common types of combustors:

Exhaust nozzle: One of the fundamental components of a gas turbine engine.

Gas Turbine Engine: A type of engine that is driven by hot gas. Also referred to as a jet engine. There are several basic gas turbine engines:

Hypersonic Inlet: A type of inlet used on aircraft that go Mach 5 or greater.

Inlet: One of the fundamental components of a gas turbine engine. Also known as the Intake. It's function is to bring air into the engine. There are several basic inlets:
Hypersonic Inlet
Subsonic Inlet
Supersonic Inlet

Intake: Synonymous with Inlet; one of the fundamental components of a gas turbine engine.

Jet Engine: Also know as a gas turbine engine.

Nozzle: One of the fundamental components of a gas turbine engine.

Piston: A piece of metal which moves up and down inside a cylinder in an engine.

Propulsion: To push or drive an object forward by the ejection of gas. There are four basic propulsion systems.
Propellar propulsion system
Ramjet propulsion system
Rocket propulsion system
Turbine Engine propulsion system

Subsonic Inlet: A type of inlet used on aircraft that cannot go faster that the speed of sound.

Supersonic Inlet: A type of inlet used on aircraft that go faster than the speed of sound.

Turbofan: A type of a gas turbine engine which has a large fan in the front of the engine.

Turboprop: A type of a gas turbine engine that is attached to a propellor.

Turbojet: A type of a gas turbine engine. It is a reaction type of engine.

Turboshaft: A type of a gas turbine engine that is used for helicopters.
