Here is just a few of the many categories of turbine components.
Terminology:
Condensing Steam turbine: One of two categories within Steam turbines.
Gas turbines: A type of turbine that is driven by hot gas.
Hydraulic turbine: A type of turbine, also known as a water turbine
Impulse turbine: A type of turbine that operates by the force of the fluid striking the blades which in turn causes the rotor to spin.
Kinetic energy: Energy of movement.
Mechanical energy: Energy that is in the form of mechanical power.
Noncondensing Steam turbine: One of two categories within Steam turbines
Reaction turbine: A type of turbine that operates when the rotor turns due to the weight or pressure of the fluid on the blades.
Turbine: A device with a rotor turned by a moving fluid that converts kinetic energy into mechanical energy. Based on how they operate, turbines can be categorized into one of two categories; impulse or reaction. Another way to classify turbines is based on the fluid that turns them:
Gas Turbines
Steam Turbines
Water Turbines
Wind Turbines
Steam turbines: A type of turbines that is driven by steam. There are two types of steam turbines:
Condensing Steam turbine
Noncondensing Steam turbine
Water turbines: A type of turbine that is driven by water, usually from a waterfall.
